Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said the news of Sergio Busquets’ retirement has given his team “double motivation” to finish the season strong and end the Spanish midfielder’s career in the best possible way.
Inter Miami, who face Toronto on Saturday, have already secured a place in the playoffs but are still working to improve their position in the standings.
Mascherano revealed details of his conversation with Busquets in a press conference on Friday before the official announcement of his retirement: “He told me yesterday – he’s been thinking about it for a few weeks. It’s a shame because he’s still at a level where we can enjoy his game. As a friend who has experienced this moment himself, the only thing you can do is be there for him. Sergio is absolutely determined in his decision.”
